雄飛滝 Yuuhi-daki The Yuhidaki Waterfall

Jp En

Yuhidaki is a 30 meter waterfall located in Yamada Town in the northernmost part of Shuzenji Town in Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It flows down in two stages; the upper stage is 20 meter tall and the lower stage is 10 meter tall. The white lines of water flowing down on the columnar joint rock surface, which is typical to this region, are very beautiful. The statue of Fudo Myoo is enshrined beside the bottom of the waterfall.

Double-flowered cherry trees that come into bloom in late April and hydrangea flowers that line the walking trail down to the basin in June offer wonderful color contrasts to the waterfall. In winter, on the other hand, the dashing flow of water freezes to create beautiful ice pillars. You will feel as if time has stopped when you see the sharp tips of ice plunging from above your head and protruding toward you.

群馬 不動大滝 Gunma Fudou-ootaki The Fudo-Otaki Waterfall in Gunma

Jp En

The Fudo-Otaki Waterfall in Kasukawa-machi, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture is the most magnificent waterfall in the prefecture. It is counted as one of Japan’s 100 Fine Waterfalls. It is in the upstream of the Kasukawa River, which flows out of Lake Ko-numa near the top of Mt. Akagi-yama. The waterfall has a height of 50 m. The water dynamically falls down with roaring sounds.

With dark green leaves and acacia blossoms in early summer, fantastic mist and rainbows in summer, autumn foliage, and ice pillars in winter, the waterfall shows different scenery from season to season. Surrounded by the steep cliff formed by erosion, it is nothing but an exquisite work of natural art.

There are places of interests around the waterfall such as the rock cave where Kunisada Chuji (the Japanese Robin Hood) hid himself and Takizawa Fudoson Temple, which had been a training ashram for mountain practitioners in Mt. Akagi-yama until the Edo period (1603-1868).

フンベの滝 Funbe-no-taki The Funbe Waterfalls

Jp En

The Funbe Waterfalls in Hiroo-cho, Hokkaido are unique waterfalls that gush out of the rock cliffs. “Funbe” means “a beach where whales can be caught” in the Ainu language. The name comes from the episode that a beached whale was once found in this town. Different from other waterfalls that flow down the cliff in rivers, the Funbe Waterfalls gush out of the rocky cliffs along the road. The groundwater that permeated into the gravel layer in the rock runs down through the sand particles and springs out of the rocks. Several lines of water, which are about 12 m high, fall down the cliff covering about 150 m wide. The continuous flow of water looks very cool. In winter, the water freezes and creates a huge beautiful ice poles. Together with the rude wave sounds of the winter Pacific Ocean beyond the cliff, you will really sense the magnificence of nature here.
