ニペソツ山 Nipesotsu-yama Mt. Nipesotsu
|
Mt. Nipesotsu with an altitude of 2,013 m above sea level is the highest peak in the Higashi-Daisetsu area in the central part of Hokkaido. The mountain path to the top is very steep and has a lot of narrow ridges. Its alpine feature, which is rare for the mountains in Hokkaido, has fascinated a lot of climbers. Seen at a short distance, its steep and harsh rock cliff looks as if it is repelling any human being. If you stand at the summit after going over a lot of furious ridges, you can command an exquisite view of Mt. Tomuurashi, the Tokachi mountain ranges, and the Omote-Daisetsu. The area is known as a habitat of Japanese pikas. You may be able to see a cute pika in this untamed mountain. How wonderful it will be to feel that you are standing in the midst of magnificent nature! Maybe this is why people are fascinated by this mountain.
