吹上浜砂丘 Fukiagehama-sakyuu The Fukiage Coastal Dune
|
The Fukiage coastal dune is an arch-shaped sand dune extending along East China Sea from Ichikikushikino City to Kaseda in Minamisatsuma City in Kagoshima Prefecture. With a length from north to south of 47 km and a width of maximum 2.5 km, it is one of the three major coastal dunes in Japan, one of Japan’s 100 Most Beautiful Beaches and also selected as one of 100 Fine Pine Forests in Japan.
In the front sand hill are the green belt of sea bindweed, a kind of wild rice (Zoysia macrostachya Franch. et Savat.) and beach pea (Lathyrus japonicus).
The beach is also famous because sea turtles come to lay their eggs. Sloping gently some hundred meters away from the water’s edge, the beach is alive with tourists who enjoy gathering clams or fishing smelt-whitings from spring through summer.
Wonderful pine tree forest extends along the inner sand hill area, where Fukiagehama Prefectural Beach Park and Lake Satsuma Park are located and provide people with recreation and refreshment.
