|
Mt. Kiso-Komagatake located on the border of Uematsu Town, Kiso Town, and Miyata Village in Nagano Pref. is the highest peak of the Central Alps. This mountain with an altitude of 2956 meters is selected as one of Japan’s 100 Fine Mountains. From the top of this mountain, you can command a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains including Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps mountains, Mt. Ontakesan, Mt. Norikura and the Northern Alps mountains. This mountain is known as a treasure box of various rare alpine plants. In fall, the mountain is covered with autumn leaves of mountain ashes and gold birches. The plants unique to this mountain are cudweed sagewort and Leontopodium shinanense Kitam. The verdure covering Senjojiki Cirque that was scooped out by a glacier of 20,000 years ago makes a clear contrast with the rocky peaks of Mt. Hoken. Other places of interest are the Tenguiwa Rock and Nou-ga-ike Pond. You can also enjoy the fine view of the range of mountains such as Mt. Shogigashira. As the ropeway brings you as high as the altitude of 2612, it is relatively easy to climb.
