太田祇園祭 Oota-gion-matsuri Ota Gion Festival
|
This festival is known for gallant performance of Mikoshi-momi, in which young Mikoshi (portable shrine) carriers roughly waggle and lift up and down the Mikoshi to the music of Ohayashi (Japanese traditional music). This is a very unique performance in this region and excites a lot of spectators. Their performance is really vigorous. Every time they make the Mikoshi “rampage,” sandblasts blow up from the ground and the galleries give a shot of pleasure. Recently Kodomo-Hayashi played by the local school children and the Mikoshi carried by young children are also very popular. The festival is held in Shin-Tone area at the end of July every year. It begins with Kodomo-Hayashi starting at around 5:00 PM, which followed by Ohayashi and Mikoshi parade by adult. With the advance of night, the festival comes to a climax.
