富良野岳 Furano-dake Mt. Furanodake

Jp En

Mt. Furanodake (1,912 m) is a volcano located at the southern end of the Tokachi mountain range, a part of the Daisetsu mountains in the central part of Hokkaido. Though it is an active volcano, its volcanic activity is presumed to have ended a long time ago. Now it is well-known for a variety of alpine plants. Different from the rugged landscapes of Mt. Tokachidake and Mt. Bieidake, which still show signs of volcanic activities around the explosive craters, Mt. Furanodake is covered with green trees and dotted with flower communities, which deserves to be called “Flower Paradise.” On the mountain side is a highland marsh Genshigahara, where swamp plants such as bog rosemary can be found. The flower field of over 100 species of alpine plants including bluebells spreads near the mountain top. A lot of climbers visit this mountain to see this flower field. In addition to this, as it takes only three hours to get to the summit, Mt. Furanodake is more popular than the main peak Mt. Tokachidake.
