西米良神楽 Nishimera-Kagura Nishimera Kagura Dance
|
Nishimera kagura dance is a Shinto ritual handed down in Nishimera-son, Koyu-gun, Miyazaki Pref. It dates back to about 550 years ago, when Daiomiya Mikawa Shrine (present-day Murasho Hachiman Shrine) was founded for Prince Kanenaga, the ninth son of Emperor Godaigo. This kagura dance is characterized by its elegant style that takes over from the dance that was performed at the Imperial court in the Nara and Heian periods, in which the Japanese dancing style originating in Iwato Kagura Dance and Chinese and Korean styles are combined. As the dance has been handed down in a strict manner from person to person for a long time, the original forms and movements are accurately preserved. The dance was handed down first to the five shrines in the village and later to the towns of Shiromi and Ohae in Saito City, Nakanomata in Kijo-cho and Kunitomi-cho. On every Saturday evening in December, the kagura dance is performed at every shrine in Nishimera-son. This simple but mysterious dance fascinates people beyond time.
