神尾家住宅 Kamioke-jyuutaku Kamio Farmhouse
|
Kamio Farmhouse is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property located at Yamakuni Town in Nakatsu City, Oita Pref. Successive generations of Kamio family in the Edo period were assigned as Kumigashira (an officer to govern a village). The house is the oldest existing wooden house in Kyushu region. Although the year of construction is normally unknown in the case of private houses, there is a record that this house was built in 1771. The house was built in Magari-Yosemune-zukuri style with the L-shaped main building and steep thatched roof, which was typical to this region. As is the case with the houses in Kyushu and further south regions, a lot of bamboo is used as building material. The buildings face the south and the main building houses Doma (space with earth floor) and stable in the east. Three wings are connected to one another, forming flying goose formation of the four buildings including the stable. As the house is lived by people still now, don’t forget to make phone communication before your visit.
