Lake Togo is a beautiful brackish lake in the border of Togo-cho and Hawai-cho in Tottori Prefecture. A brackish lake is a lake with seawater and fresh water mixed together. As it takes a shape of a crane spreading its wings, it is also called Crane Lake. With a circumference of 12 km and an area of 4.17 sq m, it is the prefecture’s second largest lake after Koyamaike Lake. It is supposed that the lake was separated from the sea by alleviation of the Tenjin River running in the west. It is a treasure trove of fresh water fish such as lake smelt and crucian carp. The distinctive Yotsute-ami fishing method done at the lakeside is typical to this lake.

The area around the lake is a popular hot spring resort. There are many hot springs including Togo Hot Springs and Hawai Hot Springs in the vicinity. Hot springs even gush out of the bottom of the lake. The scene of the sun setting in the lake is especially impressive. You can also view the lake while bathing in an out-door hot spring.
