Obuchi Mebuchi Gorge Park is located between Furuyu Hot Spring and Kumanogawa Hot Spring in Saga Pref. The river runs gently through the riverbanks made of large and small strange rocks. Obuchi (male abyss) had been feared as the most challenging choke point for rafters until the end of the Meiji period. It is said that there is a very deep trench at the bottom of the abyss, to which nobody has dived. There are many legends and anecdotes about the abyss and it still has the mysterious atmosphere. The two abysses are now maintained as a park, where a nature trail is built. The Naruse Bridge painted in vermillion against the valley creates a beautiful landscape. The most impressive season is the fall, when the whole mountains are ablaze with autumn leaves.
