伊佐爾波神社 Isaniwa-jinjya

Jp En

The Isaniwa Shrine is located in  Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. The shrine has been designated as an important national cultural asset.
The shrine was originally built in the Heian period, but the current construction dates to  1667 (Kanbun 7) when the shrine was rebuiltbythe domain lord Matsudaira Sadanaga when his prayers for success in the Yabusame (a style of Japanese archery) ceremony held in the Edo castle were answered. The pavilions are built in the famous Hachimanzukuristyle of Japan, along with Kyoto’s  Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrineand the Oita’s Usa-Hachimangu Shrine.
The main pavilion is brilliant for its gilded columns, richs colors and the detail sculptured Hikawabuki. Wefeel as if we are drawn into the elegant world of the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
The  shrine’s vermilion halls looks their best set against autumn leaves, makinga particularly beautiful view.
