Jp En

Tatsuta Shrine was built by Prince Shotoku in token of his gratitude to Tatsuta Myojin, the guardian god of Horyuji Temple, for the Myojin had told him where to build Horyuji Temple. The shrine is located in Ikaruga Town, Nara Pref. Ame no Mihashira no Mikoto and Kuni no Mihashira no Mikoto are enshrined. There is a legend that during the reign of Emperor Sujin, bad harvest continued for a long time. The emperor then ordered to perform augury and found that the bad harvest was the evil influence of the both deities. When the emperor dedicated heihaku (holy cloth) to the deities and prayed for their protection, there was a bountiful harvest in the next year. Fuchin Taisai, which has a history of 1300 years, is held from June 28 to July 4 to pray for avoiding damage from typhoons and floods. A lot of visitors come to see Tatsuta Kagura performed on the morning of the last day of the festival.
