雨煙別の滝 Uenbetsu-no-taki The Uenbetsu Waterfall

Jp En

The Uenbetsu Waterfall is in the Uenbetsu River to the south of Mt. Santo in the eastern part of Hokkaido. It is also called “San-no-taki (the 3rd Waterfall),” which may be because there are two other anonymous waterfalls in the vicinity. The forest road is built partway to the waterfall but is very steep.

The Uenbetsu Waterfall is rarely visited even by local people because the weather conditions or breakup of the road sometimes prevent the access to the waterfall. The permission to enter the mountain is not given when brown bears make frequent appearance. What is more, as you must cross the river on your way, you need to pay attention to the volume of water.

When you get close to the waterfall at last after conquering such difficulties, you will be impressed by its dynamic flow. Although it is not a very tall waterfall, the abundant volume of water creates powerful gushing of flow with refreshing water smoke. You will enjoy deep breath of clear moist in the air.
