根城 Nejou Nejo Castle

Jp En

Nejo Castle, which was constructed by Moroyuki Nanbu in 1334, had functioned as the center of Hachinohe region for about 300 years until the castle was no longer used because of the relocation of Nanbu clan’s fief. Nejo Castle Ruin was designated as a National Historic Site. Later in October, 1994, the castle was reconstructed and the site was coordinated into “the Nejo Square.” The Main Building, where the lord used to carry out ceremonies, the craft house, the wooden storehouse, the barn and the stable are restored on the basis of the excavation research. Inside the Main Building, visitors can see how the ceremonies were performed in those days and also experience the historical culture in medieval and early modern times to see many tools displayed in other buildings.
