千葉 八鶴湖 Chiba Hakkaku-ko Lake Hakkakuko

Lake Hakkakuko located in Togane City, Chiba Pref. is a small lake with a surface area of 3.4 ha. Surrounded with Togamine Hills in the three directions, it creates a tranquil atmosphere. On the east lakeside is Saifukuji Temple and on the west, Honzanji Temple. Togane Castle ruin is located up the hill behind Honzanji Temple. The lake is the end of the Onari Kaido Road, which was built for Tokugawa Ieyasu enjoying hawk hunting in Togane. The lake was extended to the present size when the temporary palace for Ieyasu was built on the lakeside. The lake used to be called “Goten-ike (Palace Pond)” or “Lake Konishi.” In April, when about 1,000 cherry trees surrounding the lake are in full bloom, Togane Cherry Blossom Festival is held and a lot of people come to enjoy viewing cherry blossoms. The blossoms are lit up at night during the festival.
