兵庫 高源寺 Hyougo kougen-ji Kogenji Temple
|
Kogenji Temple of Chuho School, Rinzai Zen Sect, is a famous beauty spot of Japanese maple trees, which are said to be the best in the area so-called “Santan (present-day northern part of Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures)” area. The maple trees at this temple are called “Tenmoku” maple trees, for the trees were brought to this place from Mt. Tianmu (Tenmoku in Japanese) in Hangzhou, China by the Buddhist priest Enkei, who had performed the ascetic practices at a temple on this mountain and established this temple under the order of Emperor Godaigo in 1325. In autumn, a lot of tourists come to enjoy fall foliage. The whole mountain including the temple buildings and the mossy stone steps is ablaze with autumn leaves of as many as 2,000 Tenmoku maple trees. It looks as if the mountain is blazing.
