木と漆の器 大蔵豊彦 Ki-to-urushi-no-utsuwa Ookura Toyohiko Wooden lacquered vessels: Toyohiko Okura

Jp En

A wood craftsman, Toyohiko Okura’s workshop is in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Here he shapes vessels out of wood blocks by using the Japanese traditional wood tuner, then applies lacquer on them to make various kinds of wooden vessels. As a wood craftsman, he takes pride and fastidiousness in doing everything for himself. This is why he even forges his blade-tools (planers) himself. His purpose is the making of “lacquered ware for daily use,” that is convenient, user-friendly and long-favored vessels. The warmness of his lacquer ware catches on the nationwide enthusiasts. You can also order the custom-made one and only vessel out of your own memorial wood. Isn’t it the best remembrance for the turning point of your life?
