神の子池 Kaminoko-ike Kaminoko Pond
|
Kaminoko Pond is fed from deep channels connectingto Mashu Lake, and is located anear the town of Teshikaga in Kawakami County, Hokkaido. It is part of the Akan National Park. Kaminoko means ‘Child of god’, and is named for the fact that it is generated by ground water from Mashu Lake, which is called ‘ Lake of god’.
Mashu Lake is not connected to any river, and, even though it is replenished by water from rain or melting snow in the spring, the water level does not change. This is because water seeps through cracks in the cliffs surrounding the lake or down through fissures at the base of the lake.
Mashu Lake holds the world record for water clarity. The lake shines an emerald blue and, even though its depth is 5 meters, it is so transparent that you can clearly see the bottom of it or the of fluttering sand by the spring water.
This lake is not well known as a sightseeing place, yet those who visit sigh with astonishment to see ‘the gift from god’ and its beauty.
