Manidera located on the mountainside of Mt. Maniyama to the southeast of Tottori Sand Dune is a historic temple of the Tendai sect. It is known as the holy place in Inaba area and visited by a lot of worshippers at around the equinoctial weeks. The history of the temple dates back to the Jowa era (834-848) in the Heian period. The temple is said to have been founded by Jikaku Daishi Ennin. The temple was faithfully worshipped by women because women were allowed to visit this temple, although they were excluded from most holy places including Mt. Koya and Mt. Hiei at that time.
Walking up the steep stone steps and go through the Nio-mon Gate, you will find the stately buildings of the Hondo (main) hall, the Nyoraido hall, and Okuno-in hall, which stand in a row from the foreground to the innermost. The Nio-mon Gate, which was constructed in the 18th century, is the prefecture’s one of a few examples of the temple gate in the 1 opening and 3-bay style. The water flowing down the statue of Kannon in the precinct is believed to be good for fine health and longevity. People from all over the country visit this temple in hope of recovery from asthma on August 15th on the old calendar, when the secret ritual of the Tendai sect, Hechima-kaji, is performed.

Kannon Temple is a Yuzu Nembutsu temple on Mt Otowa in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture.

Kannon Temple is the 8th temple of Amadera Sanju-Rokkasho. In the Hakuho period, when Nakatomi no Kamatari's son, Jo-e, enshrined his father at Myoraku Temple, he established Kannon Temple to exorcize devils. The temple includes a statue of Sahasrabhuja-arya-avalokiteśvara, which was carved from a single tree by Kamatari.

During the Heian period, Kannon Temple prospered and was known as Otowa Hyakubo. In 876, however, much of the temple was destroyed in a flood.

The temple's principle deity is, of course, Sahasrabhuja-arya-avalokiteśvara, which is known as Otowa's Kannon. The temple grounds feature several special spots, such as Otowa spring (said to be good for eye diseases), and a ginkgo tree (said to bring good fortune).
