えびす洞 Ebisu-hora Ebisu Cave

Jp En

The Ebisu Cave is a 52m tall rock with a gigantic 30m wide hole made by shore erosion. It is known as the largest cave in Tokushima Prefecture. The blue sea, visible on the other side of the cave, is like an illusion, and from the observation tower on the mountain, there is a view of coast and emerald ocean. At the top of the mountain is a shrine to the god of concord between husband and wife. Along the coast there are other large and small caves created by shore erosion. A walking path has been built and in one cave nests a protected species of house martin. This beautiful coast is also famous as the spawning ground of the loggerhead sea turtle. When wild waves crash across the rocks , a roar resounds through the cave, and the sight of seawater surging from the mouth of the cave is tremendous.
